About madi

Madi is a small café and creator hub in a renovated shophouse at 1113 Charoen Krung Road, at the mouth of Soi Charoen Krung 43 near the Central Post Office in Bang Rak. The name comes from the casual Thai invitation "ma-dii", roughly "come on". Inside it is minimalist and Nordic in feel, with ivory walls, warm wood furniture and skylights. The double-height room has a big arched window, and upstairs there is a gallery and workshop space.

The café pours coffee made with Mae Chan Tai beans. Wongnai members recommend the Madi Culture Coffee and the Dirty, both around ฿120, and a croissant for about ฿95. Reviewers also mention a rich dark cocoa and a small bakery counter. Wongnai puts it in the ฿101-250 per person range. On evenings when the wine bar runs, the focus moves to natural and organic wines, and the spend goes up a lot.

It suits a slow daytime date. You can have coffee in the soft natural light, look at whatever is showing in the upstairs gallery, then walk on to the other galleries and cafés along Charoen Krung. One Wongnai reviewer suggests arriving around 4pm, seeing the art, then staying on for wine once the evening bar opens.

Why it works for a date

  • Calm, minimalist room with lovely natural light
  • Upstairs gallery and creative events
  • Rich dark cocoa and good coffee
  • Evening natural wine selection

Good to be aware of

  • Small bakery selection, some items sell out
  • No food or drinks in the upstairs gallery
  • Closed Mondays and closes by late afternoon
