The So Heng Tai Mansion

Café in an old Chinese courtyard mansion in Talat Noi.
About The So Heng Tai Mansion
So Heng Tai (Baan Sow Heng Tai) is a Hokkien-style Chinese courtyard mansion more than 200 years old, at 282 Soi Duang Tawan off Charoen Krung Road in Talat Noi. It is about 700m from MRT Hua Lamphong. Behind its red gate, the family home still stands around a central courtyard with old murals and carved details. A swimming pool in the middle is used for scuba diving lessons, and the family keeps a large pack of beagles.
The café side is simple and self-service. Coffee runs from about ฿85 for an Americano to ฿105 for a vanilla latte. Wongnai members recommend green tea latte, peach lemon tea, red lychee soda and orange cake, with drinks around ฿85-115 and cakes ฿50-75. Entry works by ordering at least one drink or snack per person, or paying a ฿50 fee. Reviewers are clear that you pay for the setting more than the drinks.
Come here for a heritage wander, not for the coffee. Stop in while exploring Talat Noi's lanes and street art, sit a while in the quiet courtyard and take photos of the architecture. Mornings and weekdays feel calmest. Pair it with a riverside walk or dinner elsewhere along Charoen Krung.
Why it works for a date
- Beautiful 200-year-old Chinese courtyard house
- Peaceful escape inside busy Talat Noi
- Great spot for architecture photos
- Owners share stories of the house
Good to be aware of
- Drinks are pricey for their quality
- Parts of the house look worn, and upper stairs are steep
- Service can feel abrupt; lots of beagles on site
