Samantao Heritage Coffee

Coffee shop with a heritage feel on Soi Somkid near Chidlom.
About Samantao Heritage Coffee
Samantao Heritage Coffee is a small old-style coffee house inside Nai Lert Park Heritage Home, off Soi Somkid near Ploenchit and Chit Lom. It sits in a wooden Thai house beside the pond by the estate's old pier, and it is named after a boat that belonged to Nai Lert. There is room for about 28 people, split between a small air-conditioned room and seats by the water under big shade trees.
The menu is Thai breakfast and old-fashioned coffee shop snacks. Think heritage coffee with condensed milk, hot coffee served with butter, Thai tea, soft-boiled eggs in a glass, pan-fried eggs in a cast-iron pan, pork congee, and toast or steamed bread with pandan or Thai tea custard. Drinks are roughly 65 to 110 baht, and most people spend about 100 to 250 baht each.
It works well for a slow morning date: breakfast by the water in a quiet garden, right in the middle of the city. One writer suggests coming between 7:00 and 8:30 am, when it is calmer and the lakeside seats are free. Afterwards you can walk around the Nai Lert Park grounds, and the Chit Lom and Ploenchit shopping areas are close by.
Why it works for a date
- Peaceful pondside seats under shade trees
- Nostalgic wooden Thai house setting
- Pandan custard with soft steamed bread
- Heritage coffee, including the version with butter
Good to be aware of
- Small, cramped indoor room with only about 28 seats
- Hard to find from the main road
- Some say the food is average for the price, and service can be uneven
