Lumphini Park

Bangkok's central park, good for a morning walk or a paddle boat.
About Lumphini Park
Lumphini Park is Bangkok's first public park, given by King Rama VI in 1925 and named after the Buddha's birthplace. It covers about 57 hectares on Rama IV Road, between Silom and the Sathorn-Wireless business district. There is a large lake, shady lawns, a Chinese-style clock tower and a statue of King Rama VI at the southwest gate, all ringed by office towers.
Entry is free. People jog the 2.5 km loop, do tai chi in the early morning, paddle swan boats on the lake, and join the free outdoor aerobics that starts in the early evening. Hundreds of water monitor lizards live around the water. Food is mostly from vendors near the gates.
It works well as a relaxed, free date: a slow walk, a swan boat together and a picnic on the grass, with the skyline turning gold around sunset. Late afternoon is best because the heat eases. Morning is good for a quieter walk.
