Jim Thompson House Museum

Traditional teak houses and gardens of the silk entrepreneur Jim Thompson.
About Jim Thompson House Museum
The Jim Thompson House Museum is the former home of Jim Thompson, the American who revived Thailand's silk industry after World War II and who disappeared in Malaysia in 1967. It sits at 6 Soi Kasemsan 2 off Rama 1 Road, a short walk from BTS National Stadium and close to MBK and Siam. Six traditional teak houses, some brought from Ayutthaya and from the weaving village of Bangkrua, stand in a leafy garden on the Saen Saep canal.
You see the main house on a guided tour only, offered in Thai, English, French, Chinese and Japanese, and you take off your shoes before going inside. The rooms hold his collection of Southeast Asian art, ceramics and antiques. Adult entry is 250 baht on the official site, 150 baht for ages 10 to 21 with ID. There is also a garden-facing restaurant, a silk shop and the Jim Thompson Art Center in the same compound.
It works well for a date because it feels quiet and green right next to the busiest shopping area in town, and the unsolved mystery of Thompson's disappearance gives you something to talk about over lunch afterwards. Go on a weekday before 11am to avoid the midday tour crowds, then eat at the restaurant or walk over to Siam.
