Bang Nam Phueng Floating Market

Weekend floating market in the green lung of Bang Krachao.
About Bang Nam Phueng Floating Market
Bang Nam Phueng Floating Market sits at 98 Bang Nam Phueng in Phra Pradaeng, Samut Prakan, on the Bang Krachao river bend often called the green lung of Bangkok. It opened in 2004 to support the local economy. Covered stalls line a small canal and a maze of lanes next to Wat Bang Nam Phueng Nai, so it feels more like a village market beside the water than a boat market.
Most people come to snack their way through it. Stalls sell khanom krok hoi tod (crispy mussel griddle cups), beef satay, khanom bueang crepes, boat noodles, crispy pork belly and homemade pork balls, plus potted plants, cacti, seeds, cheap clothes and handicrafts. Prices are low: one blogger paid 30 THB for coffee and 20 THB for a small cactus. Entry is free.
It works well as a relaxed, low-cost weekend date, especially paired with a bike ride around Bang Krachao. Go on Saturday or Sunday morning, since many vendors close by mid-afternoon and the heat builds quickly. Getting there is part of the fun: a short river ferry and a bike or motorbike taxi.
Why it works for a date
- Cheap, tasty local food
- Relaxed and less touristy than big floating markets
- Easy to combine with cycling on Bang Krachao
- Plants and handmade goods to browse
Good to be aware of
- Weekends only, and stalls close early
- More a canal-side market than boats on water
- Hot and crowded around midday
