About After Sunrise

After Sunrise is a small churros and ice cream cafe on the second floor of an old shophouse in Tha Tien, on Maharaj Road beside the Chetuphon Gate Hotel. You order downstairs, then climb a narrow staircase lined with photos to a vintage-style room whose big glass windows look straight onto the roofs of Wat Pho.

The menu is short and built around freshly fried churros, served on their own or with ice cream, plus hot chocolate and coffee. The Everyday Choco Time set (chocolate ice cream, Oreo and a large churro) is about 140 baht. A Trip.com reviewer put pastries from about 90 baht and drinks from about 110 baht.

It makes an easy sweet stop after walking around Wat Pho. Reviewers suggest coming 30 to 60 minutes before sunset for a window seat, when the light is good and the temple starts to glow. Seats are few, so expect a short wait at busy times.
