LUZ Bangkok Tapas Bar takes up the 33rd and 34th floors of the INNSiDE by Meliá Bangkok Sukhumvit hotel at 1472 Sukhumvit Road, about 200 metres from BTS On Nut. It has an indoor dining room and bar with skyline windows plus an outdoor terrace next to the hotel's rooftop infinity pool. Guides describe the mood as stylish but casual, with a DJ most nights.

The menu is Spanish tapas, some with Thai touches: Iberico ham croquettes, gazpacho and salmorejo, grilled octopus, paella, then churros or Basque cheesecake to finish. There are signature cocktails, sangria, Spanish wines and craft beer. It is a splurge. Tapas cost about 120 to 790 baht, mains 650 to 1,350 baht, cocktails around 360 to 390 baht, and The Beat puts dinner for two at 3,500 to 5,000 baht.

The high terrace view and shared small plates make it a good choice for a special-occasion date. Come just before sunset: the doors open at 4pm, and social hour from 5 to 7pm brings drinks down to 150 to 390 baht. Wednesday's Viva La Fiesta night has live Latin music and is livelier, so pick another night if you want a quieter dinner.
